Received the following scam involving seller posing as out -of- country military personnel trying to sell a stateside car.
The e-mail used by the scammer was mpst2@gmail.com.

Thank you for your interest in my car 2006 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT 2.0T LUXURY 2.0L FWD.
The general condition of my car is excellent, very well maintained, no damages and no mechanical problems, the engine runs and sounds awesome, with no cosmetic complaints really worth comment. The alloys are all presentable and original; the fronts having a few marks, all tires in good condition with plenty life remaining. Automatic transmission, clean carpets, seats, roof, boot and plastics. The oil was changed every 3k/4k miles, no electrical issues. The TITLE is CLEAR, registered under my name, no lien or loan. The car has 74,000 miles, and the year is 2006. The car is in Cumming, GA and in case it gets sold I will take care of delivery using a delivery service made only for US Army members.
Price is $2,900 (URGENT SALE) as I need to sell this car before March 28th when I will leave with my platoon in another mission outside US, now I am in the military base from United Kingdom (England) where I do some special trainings getting ready for Afghanistan where I will stay 6 months.

At this moment I am in the military base here in England as I told you getting ready for Afghanistan. This mean that I do a special training program and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want. The car is already at the Military Vehicle Transport Dept for POV(Private Owned Vehicle) in Cumming, GA sealed and ready for shipping. If you are interested this is how it works:
1. You have to send me your full name and complete address (I need them for delivery).
2. I'll open a transaction with Google Checkout for you using your delivery details as the buyer of my car. The car is already at the U.S. Army - Military Vehicle Transport Dept sealed and ready to be delivered.
3. Google Checkout will send you an invoice for payment and delivery details regarding our transaction.
4 You will send the payment to Google Checkout and they will notify me about the status, Military Vehicle Transport Dept will receive the confirmation of the payment and shipping will start to your location.
5. After you will receive and inspect/drive the car and decide to keep it, Military Vehicle Transport Dept will inform Google Checkout about that and they will forward me the funds and the deal is done.
Basically Google Checkout will secure the funds until you receive and inspect the car. You will have 10 days inspection period. If the car is not like described, it will be shipped back to me on my expense and they will give you a full refund. This way you will be able to inspect the car before committing to buy it and I know that you have the money and you are not just fooling around.

This is a typical Romanian scam pattern.
The Romanians have developed quite a sophisticated process over the years for laundering money through the UK.
Dear XXXXX,
After verifying the trustworthiness of the Seller and the availability of the Vehicle for immediate shipping, we have approved your transaction and offered you, as the buyer, full purchase protection for the amount you agreed on with the Seller.
The Seller Daniel Fazio, started the transaction over the Google Checkout. Google Checkout requires the payment to be done through wire transfer service to Google Checkout Merchant Center.
You are receiving this e-mail because you are going to buy a Vehicle and your Seller requested to use Google Checkout as payment processor. Google Checkout Service offers a set of services that build protection into every step of the Vehicle buying process. Google Checkout Service is your safety net in the rare circumstance that something goes wrong.
Google Checkout overview ::: How Google Checkout works
Step 1: Buyer and Seller Agree to Terms
Both parties agree to terms, which includes a description of the merchandise, sale price, number of days for the Buyer's inspection, and shipping information. Either the Buyer or Seller signs in to Google Checkout and creates a transaction. If either the Buyer or Seller is not a registered user, they must register with Google Checkout. Registration is free.The initiating party defines the terms of the transaction and provides information about the merchandise. This information includes:
E-mail address of the other party
Delivery Name and Address (Street, City, State, Country)
Length of inspection period
Delivery options
Party responsible for paying the shipping costs
The initiating party confirms the information entered, and agrees to the Google Checkout instructions. The other party is notified by e-mail, to agree to the terms of the transaction provided by the initiating party. After both parties have agreed to the terms, the Buyer will be asked to submit payment to Google Checkout.
Step 2: Buyer Pays Google Checkout
The Buyer submits their payment to our Google Checkout Services. Each of the payment options has a different transaction fee - payment option assigned for this transaction is Western Union wire transfer. When payment is received, it will be verified and secured into a non-interest bearing trust account. After payment is secured, the Seller is notified by Google Checkout to ship the merchandise to the Buyer.
Step 3: Seller Ships Merchandise to Buyer
The Seller ships the merchandise to the Buyer's address listed on the Google Checkout invoice. The Seller ships the merchandise using the method agreed with the Buyer and insures the item for the full value. The Seller must initially pay for the shipment of the merchandise. If the Buyer is responsible for paying the shipping costs and a dollar amount is named in the shipping field, then Seller will be reimbursed that amount when the transaction is complete. After the Seller has shipped the merchandise must contact Google Checkout and provide the tracking information. The inspection period will not begin until Google Checkout has confirmed delivery of the merchandise or the Buyer confirms the merchandise as received to the Google Checkout.
Step 4: Buyer Accepts the Merchandise

What happens if the Buyer rejects the merchandise?

When the Buyer clicks on the reject link during the inspection period, Google Checkout will e-mail the Seller that the Buyer has rejected the merchandise.
The Buyer has 10 days to ship the merchandise to the Seller's after they reject the merchandise. The Seller is responsible for paying the Google Checkout fee and return shipping/insurance costs. The same method of shipping must be used for return shipment that was used to deliver the merchandise.
After the Buyer has shipped the merchandise, they must contact Google Checkout and send the shipping company and tracking information. Google Checkout will e-mail the Seller indicating that the merchandise has been shipped. The e-mail will include all shipping information to allow both parties to track the return shipment.
Upon delivery of the shipment, the Seller must accept the returned merchandise within 5 days or the inspection period will automatically expire.
If the Buyer agreed to pay the Shipping Fee:
On closing, Google Checkout will reimburse the Buyer the purchase amount less Google Checkout and original shipping fees. Google Checkout will pay the original shipping fee collected in the transaction to the Seller. The Buyer is responsible for return shipping fees.

On closing, Google Checkout will reimburse the Buyer the purchase amount. The Seller is responsible for return shipping fees.
If the Seller rejects the merchandise, Seller will e-mail the Buyer indicating the Seller's decision to reject the returned merchandise. The transaction will be considered to be in dispute. Google Checkout will hold the funds in secured account until the dispute is resolved. Google Checkout assist in dispute resolution. The Buyer and Seller are to come to a mutual agreement of terms within 30 days or start the arbitration process within 60 days.
